All About Things My Mom Never Told Me

Things my mom never told me - is not literally a dig at my mom, while I will mention things she explained incorrectly or failed to ever tell me, often times the mom in question is me. See, there came a point in time that I realized I'd been neglectful in my mothering duties: my daughter didn't know that she should apply body lotion as soon as she finished drying off after a shower. She didn't know that she could not wear her makeup to bed. She didn't know how often to use a clarifying shampoo. She didn't know how often to do or how to do a deep conditioning treatment. She had never even seen Sixteen Candles, and she hadn't ever heard Sad Songs by Elton John. I was able to quickly remedy several of these. But why did they happen in the first place? I don't dare touch a heated hair styling tool to my hair without first applying heat protectant spray. I know she'd watched me work with my hair over and over. I had styled her hair using heat, and always used heat protectant spray. Why then did I find her styling her hair without any? I never go to bed with makeup on, she would sit with me when I would remove it and we would talk about her day. When it was time for her to start wearing makeup I naturally though she would use the makeup remover wipes I'd purchased for her before she went to bed. Then why would I wake up her up in the mornings with classic raccoon eyes from her mascara? Why was I noticing a horrible buildup in her hair by day two, when she could usually go three days between shampoos when not playing sports? I'd neglected somewhere to tell her some of these things, to be specific, to make sure she understood, not just that she saw me do them but understood why I was doing them.
These are a collection of my thoughts, opinions, and my some of my personal tricks- things I do to keep my hair, skin, nails, body, and mind healthy. Please don't ever feel like I am the last word in anything, I am not a MUA/ Hair Stylist/ Anesthetist. Seek the advice of a professional on all health care matters, and always take proper care of your skin.
The idea for this came about a year ago when I would have a thought pop into my head... something my mom never told me about that I couldn't remember if I had told my daughter. We began to make a running joke of it, and the idea for Things My Mom Never Told Me was born. My hope is to maybe help others from making the mistakes I made, and laugh along the way. Yes, you will get to hear embarrassing stories- that's what makes all this fun! "Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself." - Eleanor Roosevelt
